Diagnostic Radiology Residency Admissions
The American Board of Radiology requires five (5) years of approved training with a minimum of four (4) years in diagnostic radiology.
The first year of training must be an accredited clinical year in internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery or surgical specialties, obstetrics and gynecology, neurology, family practice, emergency medicine, or any combination of these. No more than a total of two months may be spent in radiology, radiation oncology and/or pathology. All clinical training must be with an ACGME, AOA, RCPSC or equivalent approved program.
All positions are filled through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). We offer six to seven positions each year on a competitive basis. The required clinical year is included in our match.
We accept applications through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS) only. Completed applications and supporting documents must be transmitted through ERAS by Nov. 1. In addition to the completed application, we require a personal statement and CV, three letters of recommendation, medical school transcript, USMLE scores and the dean's letter.
If you are an international graduate, we require documentation of current visa status as well as a copy of your ECFMG certificate. Our department sponsors the J1 visa only.
Interview decisions are made as completed applications are received. The program director screens for confirmation of eligibility requirements and determines who will be invited for an interview based on academic record and personal information such as letters of recommendation. We also require a minimum score of 220 on USMLE Step 1.
Interview information
The interview day consists of an overview of our program, one-on-one interviews with faculty and residents, a tour of our hospital, and lunch with the residents and faculty. Every applicant is scheduled to meet with program and department leadership. Interview dates range from October to January.
